                                    (1) (2)2016 - UpdateAnother quiet year with reference to the Seale-Hayne Future Group and thevarious planning proposals and schemes surrounding Seale-Hayne. Not muchchanged in 2015, the Hele Park development is nearly finished and the DartmoorHalfway Inn is still “Closed for major refurbishment”!Hannahs at Seale-Hayne has had an interesting year and we are pleased toreport that they are going from strength to strength. For those of us luckyenough to live in Devon and therefore able to visit regularly, it has become (asplay-write Nick Stimpson penned), “A Place of Constant Surprises”. Foreverchanging its offering to visitors, there is always something different to welcomeyou into the quadrangle and a varied programme of inventive and enjoyablepublic events on offer. And always, the atmospheric bistro in our old dining hallfor coffee or snacks and lunches or dinners. And for every member of thepublic that partakes of this hospitality, the reward of knowing that a little bit ofthe money spent is going some way to help a very disadvantaged person inHannahs’ care. Now this ‘Update’ is usually about our battles with the University, the plannersor the developers (or all three!), and I try to keep it factual and slightly ‘detached’.But whilst that front is quiet, we turn to a battle to keep Hannahs at SealeHayne. Because as with any charity, funding is the key, and Hannahs willstruggle to survive at our college without proper funding. Their work is verylabour intensive and the equipment needed is generally expensive but aboveall, Seale-Hayne has expensive buildings to occupy and maintain. And it is for this reason that the committee of The Seale-Haynians has agreedto ask our members to help, if they possibly can. We see it as important ‘clubbusiness’ that Hannahs stays at Seale-Hayne. We fought a very long battle toavoid the alternatives and we now find that Hannahs are excellent custodiansof the place. As well as doing unbelievable work for the most disadvantaged inour society, they are always exceedingly generous to, and full of respect for,our alumni club in many ways. So maybe we can help in return. In the magazine, you will find plenty of references to Hannahs’ website anddonating. PLEASE, if you can, consider getting involved as it is in all of ourinterests for the Hannahs charity to blossom. Regular giving is by far the mostuseful income for them, but of course anything will be welcomed! Our ownwebsite carries a link to their donating pages.Aside from all that, here is another Seale-Haynian magazine. Again, we saygoodbye to some notable S-H figures including ex-Governor The Earl of Morley.David Charles reports on the ’91 year group reunion, we find out how the “SafeHaven” project is going, we get a glimpse of the pre-NAAS/ADAS work at S-Hin the 40’s and we have the usual personal life-stories of some friends andcolleagues to marvel at and sometimes laugh alongside. It’s good to be in touch and I hope that you enjoy the magazine.Ian GoodwinHannahs Update 2016 - Bronwen HewittHello again Seale-Haynians!Spring is definitely here as evidenced by the three lambs being bottle-fed in thequad as I write! We have had a busy time since last I wrote and it is a joy to seeSeale-Hayne coming to life again. We have also welcomed many ex-students;you all have such incredible memories and stories! We are also about to welcomeover 200 of you to a reunion and we are very much looking forward to meetingyou all. I hope that, those of you that have not visited so far will like what yousee. Seale-Hayne is home to an incredible project, supporting people withdisabilities to enable them to have a full and rich life; it is magical, transformativeand saves lives. We hoped to, and are, changing people’s perception of disability,BUT we need your help!Disability has been in the news a lot recently; whether it’s Autism AwarenessMonth, Down’s Syndrome Day or the potential cuts in disability allowances. The challenges faced are huge and we have to help by understanding thosechallenges and providing the support needed. Everyone has the right to havesomething to do, someone to love and somewhere to live; yet there are stillyoung people moving in to retirement homes or very lonely; not able to sharewith the world their friendship or their talents – we have to change this. You and we have a shared love for Seale-Hayne and we want to stay here, butwe need your help to do this. I am asking you all to look at what we do, andwant to do, and please fill out the form at the back of this leaflet and then toregularly give a little; it would make such a difference to us and the people weare here for.It is still an amazing and special place to be, and great fun and it would be greatto see you here at any time.Thank you. Bronwen.
